DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence offers our Domestic Violence Advocate Core Competency Training (DV ACT) to provide counselors and advocates at member organizations with Advocate Privilege (DC ST § 14-310). This 6 day training (November 1st, 3rd, 10th, 15th, 17th and 22nd from 9 am - 5 pm) covers dynamics of domestic violence, trauma resulting from domestic violence, crisis intervention, personal safety, risk management, criminal and civil court processes, and resources available to victims. Additional competency areas included in the training are described below. We offer DV ACT twice a year so new advocates and those not otherwise covered by the statute are able to take the course and improve skills and competencies.
