During Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), individuals and organizations raise awareness and unite to prevent and end domestic violence in the District.
This October, these efforts are even more important given reports on the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on domestic violence. COVID-19 has caused major economic devastation, disconnected many from community resources and support systems, and created widespread uncertainty and panic.
Prior to COVID-19, residents would attend events during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in person. Please visit https://dccadv.org/dvam/dvam-calendar/ for an updated list of virtual events that take place during the month. Residents are also encouraged to participate in Purple Thursday on October 22 by wearing purple.
If you, or a loved one. are a victim/survivor of domestic violence and need assistance or resources, please contact the DC Victim Hotline.
